We should look for hiking boots or trail running shoes designed for light trekking or trail running. They should offer good protection and excellent traction.
You should wear long hiking pants that are comfortable, breathable, and have special reinforcements to protect against abrasion.
An essential item for maintaining body heat and keeping your skin dry.
An essential item of clothing for protection against the wind you may encounter in high mountain areas.
Even if we’re well-protected by the clothes we’re wearing, we should still apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to all exposed skin to prevent sunburn, which becomes more severe the higher we climb.
Sunglasses. They’re essential for protecting us from the sun. They don’t protect our eyes from small stones and twigs we might encounter on the via ferrata.
Be sure to bring water to stay hydrated, as this activity takes place in good weather and there are no water fountains at the location.

We’ll meet at the heavy-duty vehicle parking lot in the town of La Hermida, where a guide from our El Portal de Picos team will be waiting for you. We’ll hand out the equipment and begin the via ferrata.
